Let's Put Down the Phone...
Taking time to walk each day is one of the healthiest choices you can make. And it doesn’t have to be a long walk at all. Almost everyone has 15 minutes of free time twice a day or 30 minutes once a day. If you are wondering where you could carve that time from, check your current screen time statistics on your phone. How much time is spent on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or TikTok? I’m not coming after you like some old curmudgeon with a cane ranting about the wild and undisciplined habits of today’s youth.
I struggle with my screen time as well, and there are plenty of wasted hours each week, during which I could be doing something more healthy. As of late, I have been taking five minutes at a time several times during my work day to walk around. It adds up quickly. I notice my steps make a major jump every time I do this.
Too much of my own day is spent with a view just like this one. Habits take time to form, reform, remake and get away from. With that, I invite you along on this journey with me. To more walking and more time outside. To less time on phones and less time wondering what’s happening in the world beyond your grasp. Rather, lets take more time to exercise, more time to soak up the sun, more time being curious and more time being bored, even though that sounds awful. Curiously we become much more creative when we take time to allow ourselves to be bored.
“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” John Muir
